AMAUTA FAMILY PROGRAM

More and more families, with children of different ages, are coming to Peru to participate in our Spanish Programs. In 2004 AMAUTA presented the FAMILY PROGRAM, which included more facilities, adaptable programs and family discounts. In 2006 we are pleased to present three packages, which incorporate the best of our experience. We have also introduced the Spanish for Families Accommodation option.

SPANISH FOR FAMILIES

Do you want to see the best of Peru, while having a true cultural experience and also developing your knowledge and that of your children? Our Spanish for Families program is designed so that everyone in the family has a fantastic time on holiday! As every family is different, this program is custom designed. A sample program might see the whole family going on outings in the morning. In the afternoon, mom and dad would have Spanish classes at their level while the children will have their own teacher and a specially designed Kid’s class. This class is bright, interesting and colorful and children study from a range of fun materials including videos, music and children’s books in Spanish. This class is adapted to the age range of your children but is suitable for children 6 through to 17, though probably not in the same class! If you have children under 6, they can be cared for during the afternoons with a professional nanny.

A special range of kid-friendly excursions can also be planned for the weekends, based on more traditional tourism options, but specially catering for the age and level of your children. For example, the whole family can go rafting, horse riding, cycling or hiking near Cusco on a program that is designed to suit them.  A visit to a working farm in the Sacred Valley, where children can touch llamas or milk a cow is also on the agenda. Creative craft workshops can also be organized where children play traditional Peruvian instruments or make jewelry or ceramics.

SPANISH FOR FAMILIES ACCOMODATION OPTION

If you wish to maximize your holiday experience, we highly recommend staying with a Peruvian family.  If possible, we would try to place your family in a local family that has children of a similar age, providing play opportunities for your children.  This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to practice their Spanish and get to know another culture.

Depending on the situation, your host family may accompany your family on excursions. Also, your children may be able to accompany their host brother or sister to their school on several occasions, for a truly incredible Peruvian experience.

Where the Spanish for Families program has a duration of longer than one month, your child can be enrolled in a local school. (NB. They will need to have a basic level of Spanish prior to commencement at the school).

SPANISH FOR KIDS (7-12)

Why not let you kids get an early start on a foreign language? Learning while in a country where you can practice the language is the best way to learn, and it’s no different for your children. This is a specially designed kid’s class, with plenty of fun activities to break up the learning. Songs, coloring in, painting, dance, music and videos are designed to entertain and educate. Kids read using Spanish Children’s books and you will be surprised at the ability of your children to pick up this language quickly.

SPANISH FOR TEENS (13-17)

The teenage years are an exciting, confusing and challenging time for young people. No longer little kids, they aren’t adults and need specialized classes which recognize that they bore quickly with structured classes and yet they don’t to be treated like little children!

There are plenty of challenging activities for the teen in these classes, as well as a number of excursions where they have opportunities to practice Spanish. If possible, they will also have the opportunity to meet young Peruvian people of a similar age.

These courses have fixed starting dates, (see pricelist). These dates coincide with the European and US summer school vacations. Parents have the option to take Spanish class at a corresponding time to their children. These courses are available for all levels of Spanish.
- Maximum number of students: 6
- Minimum one week.

TEEN SPANISH & ACTIVITIES CAMP (13-17)

Our Students If Mum and Dad are busy working back home, or want to go travelling through Peru, or prefer to study at AMAUTA too and in the meantime want their kids to have a great experience, why not have them participate in our two-week Teen Spanish & Activities Camp, in the Sacred Valley or in the Peruvian rainforest? This is an experience they will never ever forget!

AMAUTA will assign a special bilingual Program Coordinator who will be with the students at all times during their stay in Peru, offering a secure, pleasant and safe environment for your children. All local transportation to and from the activities as well as to and from the school is included. Accommodation, entrance fees, guidance and all meals are also included in the program fees.

This is a great opportunity for teens who are interested in the Peruvian culture and its history, in cooking and making bonfires, in rafting and hiking, and in having fun while learning Spanish.

The camp is organised at our school in the Sacred Valley, approx. 1 hour by bus from Cusco. The students will feel totally immersed in Peruvian culture from the moment they arrive. The breathtaking scenery and the colorful dresses of the local people are extraordinary and they will start feeling the magic from the moment our camp leaders welcome them onto the campus. From this moment on, alongside four hours of Spanish classes daily, they will enjoy exciting sportive and cultural daily activities such as a hike to the nearby ruins of Pisac with a guided tour, an excursion to the salt mines, a salsa dancing class, a Peruvian cooking class, a music class, a bonfire and a day of river rafting. We will go to Cusco twice to visit Inca monuments and to do some additional shopping. Over the weekend we will visit the famous ruins of Machu Picchu.

The camp starts in Cusco on day 1, when we leave for the school in the Sacred Valley, and ends on day 14 when we return to Cusco with the participants. Additional days in Lima and/or Cusco can be organized. This camp can also be combined with the Rainforest Camp.

Can you imagine a more exciting classroom than our camp lodge in the Peruvian Amazon? Did you ever imagine your children studying Spanish with jungle sounds in the background? This one-week camp is a unique opportunity to live and study in the jungle while participating in fun and educational activities.

Our camp starts at the airport in Puerto Maldonado; our staff fly in from Cusco but you can fly in either from Cusco or directly from Lima, whichever is more convenient. From Puerto Maldonado, we will be transferred in a dugout canoe up the Tambopata River to our lodge. Over the course of the journey, we will see the vegetation change into a virgin rainforest.

At the lodge, you will combine Spanish classes with excursions such as a night walk searching for nocturnal animals, an exploration by foot and canoe, a bath in hot water springs, a search for caimans, and many other fun and exciting activities. Our nature guide will be with us during the jungle activities and explain the wonders of the rainforest as well as the complex and interesting eco-systems.

The camp ends on day 7 at the airport in Puerto Maldonado. Additional days in Cusco and /or Lima can be organised.
