Biography
Novelista, nació en Aracataca, Colombia. Estudió Derecho y Periodismo en Bogotá y Cartagena. Empezó a escribir cuando trabajaba como periodista en Europa (1950--65). Publicó su primera novela “La hojarasca” en 1955.
Su obra maestra es “Cien años de Soledad” en 1967. Posteriores trabajos incluyen “El amor en los tiempos del cólera” en 1985 y “Noticia de un secuestro” en 1996. Recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1982.
