Are you looking for a volunteer experience in Argentina but you do not have the time to participate in our Spanish and Volunteer Program?Here is an alternative for those who want to do a few days of volunteering in between Spanish classes in Buenos Aires: a weekend of volunteer work with “TECHO”.
TECHO (also known as Un Techo para mi Pais), is a worldwide non-profit organisation that fights extreme poverty in Latin America by constructing transitional housing. In the southern hemisphere, Christmas falls in the summer, so traditions as real pine trees, telling stories around the fire or playing in the snow do not translate temperature wise. For most of our Spanish students, it will be quite a different Christmas this year, when they are now learning Spanish in Buenos Aires. Christmas is here is a mash up of the European traditions and summertime partying with friends and family.
Christmas in Argentina starts with Fiesta de la Virgen (a Catholic holiday revering Mary) on the 8th of December. This is the day on which the Argentine families put out the Christmas decorations and Christmas trees. (more…)
Settled just off the road that wanders between Urubamba and Ollantaytambo, AMAUTA’s campus or Spanish School in the Sacred Valley, allows students to spend a week away from the hustle and cool temperatures of Cusco. The climate in the Sacred Valley is generally quite temperate, there are several famous and gorgeous tourist sites quite close, and students get to spend a week getting to know the area, their professors and each other, and practicing Spanish in every-day activities.
A typical group from AMAUTA Spanish School includes students from the US, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, and Canada.. many times there are students as well from Turkey, from France, or Belgium, Japan or Brazil… (more…)
Christmas at AMAUTA Peru
Here are AMAUTA Spanish School in Cusco, the whole team is a-buzz with preparations. Christmas is coming!
First on the agenda is getting into the Christmas spirit: getting together as a school – professors, students, staff, and administration – to cook, eat, and enjoy each other’s company.
Second on the agenda is decorating: every day a new decoration appears in the school, seemingly out of nowhere… We have Santa’s, reindeer headbands, a count-down to Christmas, a donation Santa for our chocolatada, a tree with decorations and lights, and every other cheery notion reminding us that the happiest time of the year is upon us. At the reference of a former student, Frank and Jaqueline Kuijpers decided to contact AMAUTA Spanish School, to have us organizer their volunteer work in Cusco at a clinic for mentally and physically disabled children in Cusco. There came looking for a way to help others and learn more about how Peruvian society works. Together with our volunteer coordinator, they indeed came to understand more about the Peruvian health care system, and how it functions within the society. But more important, they also had many opportunities to help the children within the clinic and the system. (more…)
What to do in Mar del Plata?
As so many beautiful cities and locations in Argentina, Mar del Plata is a great weekend get-away for the Spanish students learning Spanish in Buenos Aires at AMAUTA Spanish School, especially in spring and summer.
You can find Mar del Plata in the southeast area of the province of Buenos Aires, located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the major fishing ports of Argentina. It’s also Argentina’s biggest seaside beach resort. Besides the beaches, Mar del Plata is the home to many good restaurants and bars. (more…)
