Welcome to our Blog

Hola!  Welcome to the AMAUTA Spanish Schools blog!

At our Spanish Schools in Cusco and Buenos Aires, we provide the best Spanish courses and cultural immersion experiences for our students.  We encourage our students to step outside of the Spanish classroom, to enjoy the local culture, make Spanish-speaking friends, and travel in Peru and Argentina.  During or after finishing your Spanish course, we greatly encourage participation in our volunteer program in Cusco or Buenos Aires, where you will really get the chance to practice and improve your  Spanish language skills and give back to local community.

Here at our AMAUTA blog, we aim to keep you posted about what is happening out our Spanish schools, as well as what´s going on in and around the cities of Cusco and Buenos Aires.  We´ll also post fun articles about Peruvian and Argentinian culture, cuisine,  local fiestas, what to see in Cusco, & where to go in Buenos Aires, etc.

We´ll include advice about which weekend excursions to sign up for and which free cultural activities are available. And after reading our section of student reports, you´ll know exactly why you want to study Spanish at AMAUTA in Cusco and Buenos Aires.

Volunteering in Peru

Volunteering in Peru is an amazing experience. One of our many volunteers, Lynn, did her volunteering in Peru at one of our after school projects in Cusco. Lynn did a great job, and she even prepared a ´´Luxemburg Day´´ to teach the children about her home country. The kids loved it! We asked her a few questions about her time here in Cusco and about volunteering in Peru!

  • Where did you do your volunteering and what did you do there?

I was in after school project within the city of Cusco, during the afternoons. The activities that I did varied; I played with the kids outside and inside, I taught them English, I helped out with Bible class, and sometimes we cooked together.

We asked Simone Kuffner, who’s been volunteering at a local project in Cusco for four months!

Simone is from Austria. She arrived in late September of 2015 and is leaving us in a few days. Simone has been both an excellent volunteer and dedicated Spanish student in Peru here at AMAUTA, and we are sad to see her go. She is practically a Peru professional now! (more…)

Why Volunteering in Cusco Should be on Your Bucket List

At the reference of a former student, Frank and Jaqueline Kuijpers decided to contact AMAUTA Spanish School, to have us organizer their volunteer work in Cusco at a clinic for mentally and physically disabled children in Cusco. There came looking for a way to help others and learn more about how Peruvian society works. Together with our volunteer coordinator, they indeed came to understand more about the Peruvian health care system, and how it functions within the society. But more important, they also had many opportunities to help the children within the clinic and the system. (more…)

These young people are currently in a “gap year” traveling in South-America with Youth International, an “experiential learning program that combines rugged international travel, inter-cultural exchange, home stays with local families, volunteer community service work, and outdoor adventure.” The volunteers arrived in Cusco from Bolivia; following their week of volunteer work, they enjoyed the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu; and their next stop is Ecuador. That’s when she received information about the Spanish and volunteer programs from AMAUTA Peru and she decided to travel to Cusco.

Before starting her job in the hospital San Juan de Dios, she took a four-week Spanish course at Amauta Peru to prepare herself linguistically and culturally for working with Peruvian patients and doctors. (more…)
