As in other countries, Halloween is celebrated in Buenos Aires on the 31st of October. Originally, it was celebrated only in Great-Britain, but after large groups of Irish and Scottish immigrants moved to the United States, it also became popular in America.

In Buenos Aires, Halloween (or Noche de Brujas in Spanish) is not particularly big. You won’t find kids trick-or-treating in Buenos Aires and you won’t see big cobwebs in all the stores. Though, there is a lot to do on Halloween night. Luckily, clubs and bars organise Halloween events so all of us that are learning Spanish in Buenos Aires, can wear our favourite costume and party till dawn.

Where to get a Halloween costume

First things first, where do you get a Halloween costume in Buenos Aires? Best chances of finding a one will be in the neighbourhood called Once. There is an area filled with “Cotillon” shops, that sell all kinds of costumes, accessories, wigs, decoration, etc. The street is called Lavalle and you get there by taking Subway B to Pasteur, then walk one block.

Where to party in Buenos Aires

A famous Halloween party in Buenos Aires is the Halloween Pub Crawl, organised by The Buenos Aires Pub Crawl. A ticket includes free pizza, beer and wine between 22.00 and 23.00, a free shot in all of the three bars and VIP entrance to a club.
When: 30 & 31 October between 22.00 and 23.00

The famous Sugar also organises a Halloween party. A costume is mandatory. People with the best or sexiest costumes, could win a Budweiser mini fridge.

Magdalena’s Party, host of Oktoberfest and St. Patricks Day’s Day parties, organises a Halloween party as well. There will be a happy hour, jello shots and live music. A costume is mandatory. The best costume wins a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label, second place wins a bottle of champagne.

BAIS, Buenos Aires International Students, organises a Halloween party at Crobar. Fancy dress is compulsory.

La Noche de los Museos

31 October, between 20.00 and 03.00, 200 museums and cultural centres will open their doors to public for free. You will be able to see permanent collections and exhibitions; some places will show films or put on a concert of theatre production. Some of the museums participating are Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo, Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires, Museo Evita, Centro Cultural Recoleta, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Buenos Aires, Usina del Arte and Museo del Humor. 90 Bus lines will be available for traveling between the different museums.
