The 12 Plates of Holy Week in Cusco

Es tradición en Cusco tener un banquete de 12 platos ya sea el jueves o el viernes de Semana Santa. Tradicionalmente era el jueves, el día antes de que Cristo fuera crucificado, en recuerdo de la Última Cena de Jesús con sus discípulos. Sin embargo, algunas familias en Peru preparan los 12 platos el Viernes Santo para que toda la familia pueda estar presente. Las familias se reúnen alrededor de la mesa para recordar el sacrificio de Cristo.

Las 12 platos son diversos, pero la carne no está permitida porque la mayoría de la gente hace ayuno de carnes rojas en honor a Cristo. Por lo general, hay 6 platos salados y 6 platos dulces, y estos platos varían entre las familias dependiendo de sus preferencias.
