Welcome to our Blog

Hola!  Welcome to the AMAUTA Spanish Schools blog!

At our Spanish Schools in Cusco and Buenos Aires, we provide the best Spanish courses and cultural immersion experiences for our students.  We encourage our students to step outside of the Spanish classroom, to enjoy the local culture, make Spanish-speaking friends, and travel in Peru and Argentina.  During or after finishing your Spanish course, we greatly encourage participation in our volunteer program in Cusco or Buenos Aires, where you will really get the chance to practice and improve your  Spanish language skills and give back to local community.

Here at our AMAUTA blog, we aim to keep you posted about what is happening out our Spanish schools, as well as what´s going on in and around the cities of Cusco and Buenos Aires.  We´ll also post fun articles about Peruvian and Argentinian culture, cuisine,  local fiestas, what to see in Cusco, & where to go in Buenos Aires, etc.

We´ll include advice about which weekend excursions to sign up for and which free cultural activities are available. And after reading our section of student reports, you´ll know exactly why you want to study Spanish at AMAUTA in Cusco and Buenos Aires.

The Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Cusco, Peru

The Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Cusco, Peru

Peruvian cuisine has a lot of delicious dishes and fortunately not all of them contain meat or fish. There are actually many really good vegetarian options with maiz like ‘pastel de choclo’, or tamales, yucca, sweet potatoes, tallarin al horno, starters with avocados, ‘sopa de zapallo’ (squash soup), or locro de zapallo. And of course we have the recently discovered super-food, the Peruvian quinoa, which can be used in soups, salads, instead of rice, and even in sweet dishes and desserts. Most Spanish students staying with a local host family in Cusco during their Spanish courses, are pleasently surprised by the variety of vegetarian options Peruvian cuisine and their host mums offers. Also our chef cook at the student residence provides excellent vegetarian options.

Shopping in Cusco Peru

Shopping in Cusco!

While visiting Cusco you’ll see plenty of shops all around the city and vendors scattered all around the streets; many offering handcrafts, jewelry, art and different kinds of food as well. If you’re looking for shopping and you’re on a budget, you’ve come to the perfect place. Haggling in Peru is not only accepted, it’s expected and it earns their respect. While most items may already appear inexpensive they are marked up because of the expectations of price reductions and let’s face it, tourists mean money for the locals here in Peru. It is possible to save more money here while simultaneously practicing your Spanish language skills.

The San Pedro market located just two blocks north of the Plaza de Armas is one of the earliest markets in Cusco. Formerly known as Central Market, San Pedro is full of culture and good treats to eat. With tons of fresh produce, bread, meat, eggs, cheese and other grocery items many locals and tourists alike frequent this particular market. There are several small juice, donut and lunch cafés through out the market as well. San Pedro also offers many hand craft vendors to check out as well.
