Buenos Aires is een geweldige stad, vol verassingen.

Buenos Aires is een geweldige stad, vol verassingen. De zeven onderstaande gedachten en vragen kwamen in me op tijdens mijn eerste weken als een Spaanse taalstudent in Argentinie. Ik ben benieuwd naar jullie ervaring: wat was jullie eerste indruk van deze grote, prachtige metropool in Argentinië? Hoe voelden jullie je de eerste dagen?

Ik kan niemand verstaan. Ik dacht dat ze in Argentinië Spaans spraken?

Argentijns Spaans of Castellano is anders dan alle andere spaanse dialecten in Zuid-Amerika. Het is erg beïnvloed door het Italiaans, vanwege de vele Italiaanse immigranten die in de 19e en 20e eeuw naar Buenos Aires kwamen. Zo wordt de dubbele “L” anders uitgesproken; terwijl ze in andere Spaanstalige landen de dubbele “L” uitspreken als een “Y”, wordt het in Buenos Aires uitgesproken als “SJ”. (more…)

Buenos Aires is an amazing city, full of surprises.

The seven thoughts and questions below came to my mind, during my first weeks as a student taking Spanish courses in Buenos Aires. I am curious to know: what were your first impressing of this big, stunning metropole in Argentina? How did you feel during the first days?

I can’t understand anyone. I thought they spoke Spanish in Argentina?!

Argentine Spanish or castellano is unlike any other Spanish dialects in South America. It has a very heavy Italian influence, because of the many Italians immigrants that arrived to Buenos Aires in the 19th and 20th centuries. (more…)
