However, visiting many tango shows can turn out to be very expensive – and it is also a bit too touristic. But no more worries! Our Spanish students in Buenos Aires have discovered Club La Catedral, one of the many local hidden gems.
La Catedral is literally a hidden gem because you can’t see this place from the outside. It just seems another regular street. But nothing is what it seems in this great capital. Walk up the stairs and you will find a big, spacious room with a couple of tables, a stage, a large bar and a wooden dance floor. The walls are covered with old paintings and pamphlets about the tango in the old days of Buenos Aires. The colored lightning on the ceiling is dimmed and tango music is playing on the background. This creates the nostalgic ambiance that you have been looking for!
Even better, this place is mostly only visited by locals and many of them are truly great tango dancers. People come there in couples or alone, having a beer and dancing together in between. Everyone is welcome and you will see that many people will try to drag you with them to the dance floor.
La Catedral also offers the opportunity to take low budget tango classes. Those are highly recommended because you will be taught be a passionate Argentine couple that will not only teach you how to dance but also how to feel the dance! Tango is very sensual, like they say: ¨It is unconditional¨. And that is the most important thing you should know. So if you want to learn tango, this is the perfect way to do it.
Around midnight, a band of Argentine men starts to play tango music with profound passion and make your night even more special!
So if you are looking for a real tango night with good vibes and a lovely ambiance? La Catedral is the place to be!
