Cusco Overview

Cusco overview, main square of the city

Cusco is situated 3,400 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains and valleys. It has a population of 350,000 inhabitants - most of them indigenous and descendants of the Incas. The Cusco region has much beauty to offer, with the panorama of the Andes, many famous Inca ruins and the magical town of Machu Picchu.

Cusco, located in southern Peru, is a beautiful city surrounded by a stunning mountain range, some as tall as 6,000 meters. It is the oldest city in the western hemisphere and the cradle of the ancient Inca civilization. And, of course, it is known all over the world for its close proximity to the amazing archaeological ruins of Machu Picchu.

Cusco is an eclectic city, full of culture and history. The entire city is like a large museum, with beautiful churches and cathedrals on every corner, and old, typical neighborhoods built on original Inca stone foundations.

The city of Cusco is located in the western part of the valley of the river Watanay and is considered one of the highest cities of the world. It's a tourist hub and is one of the most important and historically significant cities in Peru.

Cusco is also an indigenous center, with many traditional people coming into the city each day to sell their products and services. There are constantly fiestas and parades with traditionally dressed people dancing and live music. It´s a fantastic place, with a great nightlife with live music, both western and latin.

You can also choose to study Spanish in our other fantastic locations in Pisac, the Sacred Valley, in Lima, Peru´s capital city, and in Tambopata, the Peruvian Rainforest.
