Volunteering in Peru or Argentina provides the unique opportunity to work and improve your Spanish skills while giving back to local society. Volunteers in Peru experience the rich cultural diversity, make new friends for life and gain a cross-cultural working experience.
AMAUTA Spanish School works with many local charity and volunteer projects in Cusco. The volunteers in Peru choose the field of the placement. Possible areas of interested include social work, education, medical work, tourism, and cultural work. Examples of volunteer projects are local schools, hospitals, after-school projects, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and projects for street children. While most of the projects are in the city center, some projects are located in the more rural areas, such as the Sacred Valley.
AMAUTA is proud to support the volunteer projects financially for every volunteer the project receives. AMAUTA also helps to purchase various items such as medical supplies, food, infrastructure improvements or educational materials.
There are different volunteer programs, each with a different commitment time frame and requirements. The Standard Volunteer Program in Peru and Argentine include four weeks of Spanish lessons in Cusco or Buenos Aires, followed by the volunteer work. But there is also a Volunteer Plus Program and a Customized Volunteer Program. Specialized skills are (normally) not necessary; a few volunteer projects request a minimum duration or a certain level of Spanish.
The Internship Program in Peru offers the opportunity to gain valuable working skills in a variety of fields. The program is designed for students and recent graduates who are looking for a challenging working experience abroad.
AMAUTA offers professional and constant support that guarantees successful participation in our volunteer programs in South America.
Working and living in another country can be quite a challenge at times. Therefore, it is important to have the support of an organization with years of experience. In addition to arranging volunteer work, AMAUTA can also help you with your Spanish classes, accommodation, cultural activities and excursions. This allows you to relax and enjoy your time in South America.
Before you begin your project, you will receive an information package, and you will receive an information package with preliminary information regarding the volunteer work experience. AMAUTA also organizes an introduction workshop about cross-cultural experiences and about the differences and social hierarchy of South American society.
Before you start volunteering, you will have the opportunity to discuss the goals and desired outcomes of the volunteer placement with our bilingual volunteer coordinator. There are also weekly volunteer meetings, which enable volunteers to talk generally about their experiences and raise any concerns.
We’ll need your resume, desired placement (three choices) and a motivation letter. When organizing your placement, we consider the student's personal goals, level of Spanish proficiency, prior work experience and length of probable commitment, as well as the needs of the host organization. When the volunteer organization agrees on the placement, we'll send confirmation of the student's voluntary work (placement document). The final decision regarding the acceptance of a student in a project will be taken by the organization.
Included in the volunteer package are:
While participation in the AMAUTA Volunteer Program is free (all students pay is their Spanish course and accommodation), included in all packages is a Volunteer Fee, which will be used to support the projects. Uses of the money depend on the most urgent needs of the project. We may purchase food for the project or provide support for their infrastructure, such as fixing facilities or purchasing supplies and educational materials.
