Biography

Born in 1950 in Madrid, is a film director and screenwriter Spanish. Has been awarded the Goya Awards.
Born in Madrid (Spain) in 1950. In the 70 degree in History from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and works as a literary critic. At this time interested in the film and wrote his first scripts, which were later adapted to film.
His reputation as a writer and cultivated friendships that allowed him to shoot the film Nobody Will Speak of Us When We're Dead in 1995, which won two Goya Awards for the screenplay and direction. After the success of his first film script Madrid paved the South, a science fiction film that could not be made into a film for lack of funding.
In 2001 joined to Penelope Cruz and Victoria Abril, major Spanish actresses in his movie Do not Tempt Me was nominated for eleven Goya Awards. In 2006 he began shooting the film Alatriste, based on the novel by Arturo Perez-Reverte, which was spectacular with a cast led by Viggo Mortensen. This film was also nominated for several Goya Awads.
His last film to date is Just Walking, premiered in November 2008, which has earned a new Goya nomination for Best Director. He is president of the Association of Audiovisual Authors Literary (ALMA).
